Several clues have been found in the desperate search for a young man who apparently wandered in ‘extremely dense undergrowth’ eight days ago on a popular tourist island.
Clothes and a hat belonging to Ben Chisholm, 22, have been found since he disappeared from Nelly Bay on Magnetic Island, near Townsville, North Queensland, at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 13.
A dark green jacket/pullover and shorts that his sister, Shiralee Rosario, last saw him wearing were found Wednesday, a week after he went missing.

Police, SES, National Fire Brigade and Parks and Wildlife teams are looking for Mr Chisholm, with his family fearing he may have fallen into the dense bushland
His desperate family fears that he “may have slipped and cannot get up” and that he would now be “weak and in need of water.”
“We still need help!” Ms Rosario pleaded in a social media post.
“We need our little community to come together to search this island from head to toe!”
Police officers, the dog brigade and SES search teams are searching the island’s bushland using a QGAir Rescue 521 helicopter, drone cameras and on foot.
National fire and park and wildlife teams also assist police in searches.
A day after his disappearance, Mrs. Rosario that his shirt and hat were found a mile down the Manderlay Avenue forest trail in Nelly Bay.
“We feel they are looking in the right area,” Mr Chisholm’s aunt, Kaylene Bell, said in a social media post after the latest clue was found.
The family are concerned for Mr Chisholm’s well-being and say the disappearance is “extraordinary”.
The missing man lives in the Nelly Bay area of Magnetic Island, police said.
“Ben wouldn’t disappear or hide from his family for so long,” said Mrs. Bell.

Family concerned for Mr Chisholm’s well-being, say disappearance is ‘out of character’
Mr. Chisholm was last seen walking from the Arcadia area of Magnetic Island to the trails inland.
On Tuesday, Ms. Rosario posted, “Let’s all pray and ask the universe tonight if Ben will be found.”
“The helicopter continues to search, as well as drones, officers from Queensland Rugged Area Tracking (QRAT), Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), SES and Rural Fire Service, Parks and Wildlife,” Acting Inspector Mark Camilleri said.
