A man has revealed that his grieving wife wants to name her baby Charles in honor of her brother who died suddenly. The only problem? The family name is Manson.
Reddit user ThrowRA_Names12 took in the ‘am i the hole a**subreddit for sharing his concern about his child who bears the same name as Charles Manson, notorious Cult leader and convicted murderer.
He explained in his anonymous letter that his wife, Melissa, 31, legally took his family name when they married four years ago and is eight months pregnant with their son.
Unfortunately, our last name is Manson. As in Charles Manson. It really sucks but that’s what I have. None of us have had a problem with that yet.
A Reddit user whose last name is Manson revealed that his pregnant and grieving wife wants to name their son Charles after her brother who recently died of a heart attack.
Notorious cult leader Charles Manson spent more than four decades behind bars after ordering members of the Manson Family cult to go on a murderous two-day rampage in 1969.
He shared that Melissa lost her brother a few weeks ago after he died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 35.
We were shocked and (devastated). He was a great guy and he was healthy, and we were really close with him. Nobody saw that coming. He left behind his wife and three children. “Now Melissa wants to name our son after her brother.”
He noted that he would have no problem with the honor if her brother’s name was not Charles.
Charles Manson, born Charles Mills Maddox, spent more than four decades behind bars after ordering members of the Manson Family cult to go on a murderous two-day rampage in 1969.
During the spree, his henchmen kill seven people: pregnant actress Sharon Tate, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, hair stylist Jay Sebring, writer Wojciech Frykowski, teenager Stephen Parent, and married couple Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.
The murders were carried out in the upscale, mostly white neighborhoods of Los Angeles in order to blame African Americans for the crimes, hoping to spark what he called a “Helter Skelter” race war.
Manson was also later convicted of killing musician Gary Hinman and stuntman Donald Shorty Shea. He died in prison in 2017 at the age of 83.
In his post, the Reddit user explained that his reluctance to name his child Charles Manson due to his connection to the murderous cult leader caused him to get into an argument with his wife.
I told her I wasn’t okay with naming our baby Charles Manson, and she insisted that no one notice or care. She calls me an a**hole for disrespecting her brother like that,” he said.
“So, should I just let this go and name our son after a man who was so important in Melissa’s life?” Asked. I really don’t want our son to live his life under the same name as a serial killer. Imagine how hard it is to get a job.
Terrified commenters insist the man can’t let his wife name their son Charles Manson, saying the baby will ‘be bullied relentlessly’
The vast majority of commenters advised the man to stand his ground, insisting that people would make contact and that their child would be “bullied relentlessly.”
“Yeah, people will notice. Like right away, and it will make you look like some glorified true crime post. OP This is the hill you have to die on,” one Reddit user wrote.
Another noted, “Charles Manson is no true crime villain, but a household name mentioned regularly in pop culture.” “Use her brother’s name as a middle name (if) anything, but to shout out loud, don’t mention your son’s name, Charles Manson.”
It sets your child up for a life of torture. And yes, people will notice and care. They will also judge you, as the parents, for giving you that name and for questioning your morals and values, someone else added.
A number of people have advised using Charles as the baby’s middle name or a variation of the name such as Charlemagne, Charleston or Karl.
Some suggested using her brother’s middle name instead, but the man made it clear that he would not be traveling with his wife because he had the same name as her “abusive father”.
Using the Reddit chat feature, Fox News Digital I contacted the user about their post. He claimed his name was Aaron Manson, but declined to provide proof of his name for privacy reasons.
“Melissa did some additional research on Charles Manson, also read my Reddit post, and agreed that it would be inappropriate to subject our unborn son to a life of torture by naming our son Charles,” he wrote in the letter.
He said they chose to name their son Cian Summit Manson, which is still a tribute to Melissa’s late brother.
“We decided on the name Cian because it is similar enough to Charles to honor him enough, but different enough that no one becomes suspicious,” he explained.
“His middle name would be Summit, after Lake Summit in Indiana, the place Charles and I loved to go camping.”
