Donald Trump likens himself to Jesus at the Last Supper in an SNL skit mocking his indictment

On Easter eve, Saturday Night Live opened with a Last Supper scene in which Donald Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, likens himself to Jesus.

This comes just days after the former president went on trial, making him the first president in US history to be charged with a crime after leaving office.

It was a historic moment that was highlighted at the SNL Open Saturday night as the cast was filming The Last Supper with Jesus telling his disciples:

One of you will betray me. And although I have committed no crime, I will be arrested, tried and convicted.

Johnson suddenly appeared as Trump on stage and asked, “I look familiar?”

‘Thank you very much. A famous and wonderful man who was arrested for no reason at all. If you haven’t had it all together, folks, I’m comparing myself to Jesus again.

Johnson as Trump continued: “And what better time would be on his birthday, Easter?” As we speak, I am being persecuted on a level the world has never seen before, even worse than the late, great Jesus. You know, many people say that we are very similar.

We are both tall, very popular, and both are frankly white American. You know, Jesus did some amazing things. Some might call it miracles. In terms of fish and in relation to bread. fish and bread.

Johnson, 33, wore prosthetics to make his skin look more like the 76-year-old president’s during his speech.

He continued, “He rose from the dead on the third day. I would have done it faster, maybe two days. I think we could have done it faster.

The character draws parallels between himself and Jesus when he compares his rocky relationship with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to Judas’ betrayal of Jesus.

“Ron DeSantis came up to me, with tears in his eyes, said, ‘Help me, Mr. Trump, I’m going to lose my election,’” Johnson said. “So, I pretty generously pretended I liked him, and then he did Judas, and now he can’t even get gays out of Disney World.”

Then he took it a step further and declared that he was better than Jesus, whom he called the child of Nebo – someone who had received advantages thanks to a successful father.

‘Mr. Jesus, quite a man, but now people are saying maybe I’m better than Jesus because I’m a self-made billionaire and Jesus was, let’s call it what he is, Nebo baby,” Johnson said as Trump said. Johnson while Trump finished the sketch saying, “They’ll come for me, they’ll lock me away,” referring to the indictment against him.

On Tuesday, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office indicted Trump on 34 criminal counts, most of which revolve around hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

He pleaded not guilty in New York and immediately returned to Florida to give an impassioned speech, affirming his position of innocence and claiming that the witch hunt was on.

This weekend, Trump was back in Miami enjoying a round of golf while watching his poll numbers rise, providing distance between himself and Ron DeSantis.

While Trump has been officially in the presidential race since November, his leading rival – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis – has yet to officially announce his candidacy for the White House.

DeSantis won another term in the Florida governor’s mansion in November by a margin of nearly 20 points in a state that has in the past been torn between Democrats and Republicans.

However, some of that momentum appears to be slowing as Trump rises in the polls at the expense of the governor.

Senior GOP officials are said to be concerned about whether DeSantis has the charisma he could campaign outside of his home state.

While he has been described as an effective lawmaker, some of his critics say he fights for the necessity of getting up close and personal with potential voters, a practice he calls “fist and smile” politics.

A Yahoo poll released days after Trump’s impeachment showed Trump with a nearly 30-point lead over DeSantis, showing Trump’s gain of about 20 points in the polls since January.

Regardless of Trump’s big lead over DeSantis, according to the Yahoo poll, the same poll showed voters are largely unsupportive of Trump taking a second term if the indictment results in his conviction.

When asked: “If Donald Trump is convicted of a crime in this case, do you think he should be allowed to serve as president again in the future?” 52 percent said it shouldn’t.

Thirty-one percent of respondents said that he should still serve another term. That split among Republicans was 56 percent think he should be president again, 24 percent think he shouldn’t, and 20 percent aren’t sure.
