A small shepherd’s hut near Britain’s most expensive seaside town has been put up for sale for nearly half a million pounds – twice the average house price in the UK.
The Green Four-Wheel Cabin is being advertised by estate agents for offers in excess of £475,000.
It has electricity and water, but the site’s only toilet is in an adjoining stone barn.
The cabin is set in an acre of land overlooking a beautiful stretch of South Devon coastline and is also close to Salcombe where houses sell for an average of £1.2million.
It is advertised as ‘potential change of use to residential’ subject to planning permission, but the asking price is still dwarfed by the current UK average of £287,880.
The property, which is just a few miles from Salcombe, a popular tourist destination in the south west of the county, is on the market for offers in excess of £475,000

But house hunters with money to burn might also be tempted by a two-bedroom apartment in a historic villa overlooking Lake Como in Italy, currently on sale for £470,000 or a five-bedroom French chateau set in 1.3 acres of land. for £500,000.
It is famous that in 2017, David Cameron bought a shepherd’s hut to write his memoirs after he stepped down as Prime Minister, for which he paid £25,000.
He was reportedly so impressed that he later bought a second cabin for his holiday home in Cornwall.
The land overlooks the Devon coast and is just miles from Salcombe, the UK’s most expensive seaside resort.

Beth Hillier, owner of beach shop Aloft, said she thinks Salcombe’s exclusivity appeals to the super-rich.
She said, ‘It’s an expensive place to be and that’s the appeal.
“It’s this little unknown spot that people have discovered over the years [with] a very tasteful, relaxed pace of life.
“I think people like the feeling of being expensive somewhere, and it just has this really relaxed vibe where people put their lives on hold and get off the treadmill for a week.”
South Hams City Council declared a housing crisis in 2021 and councilors voted unanimously last year for a policy that would see council tax on second homes double the normal.
But a loophole in the tax law has reportedly enabled 1,900 second homes in the area to switch to business rates and pay no council tax at all.
