WhatsNew2Day – Latest News And Breaking Headlines

Five French bulldogs suffering from ‘rotten conditions’ have been given a second chance at life as the RSPCA issues a stern warning to dog buyers and breeders.

Mercedes, Melody, Gizmo, Oreo and Hera were five of eight dogs who survived urgent medical treatment after an inspector found them in small cages in a home east of Perth last February.

Heartbreaking photos of the puppies show them piled up in metal cages with no floor covering and surrounded by garbage, feces and waste water bowls.

The dogs were severely malnourished by their breeder, with many left skin and bone when they were thankfully rescued from the appalling conditions.

The RSPCA inspector, who could smell faeces before she even entered the premises, rushed the dogs to the Animal Care Center in Malaga, north Perth.

There, the dogs received medical treatment for multiple health issues, with a total vet bill totaling $41,000.

Two of the dogs had deformed spines and back legs, while one puppy had suffered a painful ruptured eyeball for months.

All rescued bulldogs required respiratory surgery due to the “terrible” breathing difficulties associated with the breed.

The canines also showed serious genetic malformations and behavioral problems, which the RSPCA said indicated poor breeding practices.

Some bulldogs had bedsores on their rear ends and muscle wasting caused by long periods of confinement in their cages.

Two of the dogs suffered complications during treatment and could not be saved.

Sadly, a third puppy, suffering from serious medical conditions, had to be euthanized.

Fortunately, each of the five remaining bulldogs has been adopted by their foster parents and is now enjoying a happy life.

Photos of the rehomed puppies show Gizmo on a beach, Melody enjoying a soft bed, and Hera enjoying a walk from the comfort of a stroller.

The RSPCA said the dogs’ previous owner had left Australia shortly after they were seized and therefore could not be punished for their inhumane treatment.

The nonprofit was able to secure the dogs’ forfeiture through court and recover the $41,000 vet bill.

RSPCA WA Inspector Manager Kylie Green said the case was a clear reminder of the responsibilities of dog buyers.

“If you decide to buy a puppy, never buy online and never buy sight unseen,” she said.

“Always meet your new puppy and his mom in the home he’s growing up in.”

Western Australians expressed their horror at the dogs’ previous inhumane conditions and called for tougher punishments for animal cruelty.

‘Absolutely disgusting. Beyond animal cruelty. This is NOT a dog’s life,” said one.

“They should be thrown in jail and forced to live in their own pee and feces. Without bed, warmth, food or love.’

“Send these people to prison. If they can treat animals this way, they should be on the waiting list for animal cruelty and child abuse, such cruelty,” another wrote.

“This is terrible, but with a happy ending,” commented a third.
