The shocking content of the WhatsApp chat was exposed before the misconduct hearing.
Dan Hobbs, of the Met Police, said: “All eight officers involved were members of that ‘Secret Squirrel S**t’ group.
“For about two years, all the officers involved were attached to the South East Command at Bexleyheath Police Station.
“This was a police team that had no effective leadership from PS Luke Thomas.
“They used sexist, racist and homophobic, transphobic language and swear words.”
Racism
Mr Hobbs continued: ‘Luke Thomas made comments about Harvey Price, Katie Price’s disabled, mixed-heritage son.
He said, “For a *** who can’t see, he can find his way to the refrigerator and the cookie jar without difficulty.”
“Without further comment, it goes without saying how discriminatory this is.
He posts several pictures of Harvey Price in the WhatsApp group, including the caption “hello you c***” as the officer’s attempt at humor.
Why he does not accept this as gross misconduct is beyond the proper authority.
Luke Allan, the mixed-race officer on his team, was also mentioned after Harvey Price’s photo was posted. A poor attempt at humor aimed at Luke, suggesting it was in fact Luke.
“Both Luke and Harvey are mixed race, there is no other reason for their connection.”
“He uses the term p***y. P***y is an offensive term for the traveling community. It was an insulting term, he made no mention of it.’
Mr Hobbs then summarized several other racial slurs found in the chat, including “generalisations about the murder of black people” and references to slavery involving a black officer at the Met.
Ableism
Mr. Hobbs also described how in the group people with disabilities were referred to as ‘fat m***s, smelly m***s’.
He continued, “I understand that using the word m**g is obnoxious and inappropriate.
“It comes from the term mongoloid, it’s a very outdated historical term for people with Down syndrome.
“Years ago, there were parts of the medical community that believed that people with Down syndrome looked like Mongolian people. It hasn’t been an accepted term for years.’
The comments continued: “WTF has that m**gc*** in her hair, she’s too stupid to live.”
“A blind man got on my train, poor bastard, I would rather spend the rest of my life in a scooter.
“Makes me think, if he’s blind, why don’t his family hide his cake tin and don’t serve him a salad now and then.”
Mr Hobbs said: ‘They consistently discriminate against people with disabilities.’
Meanwhile, serving PC Rees described an image of Mr Price riding a children’s train as ‘genius’, which the panel said was ‘obviously sarcastic’ and ‘mocking his childish behavior on account of his disability’.
Sexism and homophobia
In another post, Thomas talks about a senior female officer and claims, “I bet she gets that much c***.”
In another photo, Thomas is posing in front of a poster promoting the acceptance of non-binary people.
“The text information that appears immediately above is ‘gender-free, we hope it removes barriers for non-binary recruits based on gender’.
Mr Hobbs continued: accompanying message ‘Thomas’ [reads]: ‘ oh just fuck off. What is a non-binary. Not a boy or a girl, in other words.’
“She’s non-binary and a complete asshole.”
When a new female officer joined his team he joked, “Haha Idk who it is.
“It’s a woman, so the chances of her being a competent officer are reduced and the chances of her being totally and utterly sad are increased.”
In another post, Thomas wrote: “Another male police officer says he once got away with rape on a weekend break in Butlins, so a legend in my eyes.”
Mr Hobbs said: ‘It doesn’t matter if he’s a nice person deep down, he’s promoting sexist behaviour.
“I don’t have to explain that it’s discriminatory. The comments are very detrimental to the service, should never have been said or posted, and are gross misconduct in their own right.
He called one woman a ‘fat bird’.
