NNA – Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, received, at the Grand Serail on Wednesday, Canadian Ambassador to Lebanon, Stefanie Mccollum, in the presence of his Expatriate Affairs Adviser Nazih Khayyat.

Discussions touched on coordination and cooperation with Canada to develop technical capabilities in the public sector.

On the other hand, Premier Mikati met at the Grand Serail, with a delegation of the General Labor Confederation (GLC), which included GLC Head, Bechara Al-Asmar, GLC Vice-President, Hassan Fakih, and GLC Secretary-General, Saad Eddin Hamidi Sakr.

On emerging, Al-Asmar said, “We thanked Premier Mikati for his endeavor to address the wage problem, whether in the private sector or in the public sector, and we also extended our thanks to the Ministerial Committee, which made a great effort to realize yesterday’s decisions by the Council of Ministers. However, these wages are still low and subject to criticism, especially from the League of Public Administration Employees. Therefore, it was agreed with Premier Mikati to hold an expanded meeting next week with all parties in the public sector, including the public sector’s League, and to have ongoing efforts to seek remedies at all levels so that employees can return to their work. The state cannot be set right amid the disruption of the public sector’s work, so we call for the reconsideration of what was approved by the Council of Ministers after two months, and for holding dialogue with the public sector’s leagues and military and civilian retirees, so that we can, within a period of two months, achieve an agreement that meets everyone’s ambition.”
