Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez falsely claimed that she cut down on violent crime in the Bronx by preventing cops from getting involved and instead recruiting former gang members to help.
The 33-year-old liberal said making hospitals a crime response center instead of police stations has led to a “dramatic” drop in serious crime.
“As leaders, we must focus on solutions that work rather than what helps us to look ‘tough’,” she said in a tweet on Tuesday.
But the latest stats show that while murders and rapes are down in the Bronx, criminal assaults are up 10 percent, and burglary is up more than 2 percent, with overall crime in the borough up 4.4 percent compared to 2022.
The picture is clearer than it was two years ago. Rape increased by 11 percent, robbery by 40 percent, felony assault by 36 percent and burglary by 47 percent. Total crime in the Bronx is up nearly 50 percent compared to 2021, according to the New York Police Department.

AOC posted a tweet in an interview they did with The Daily Show bragged about how they treat crime as a ‘public health issue’ and use preventive medicine methods to stop crime again.
Now in its seventh year, the program known as Stand Up to Violence is the first of its kind in New York, using Jacobi Medical Center to treat crime like disease.
The AOC has proudly stated that there are no hospital police involved in the work.
When the interviewer asked, “Are there policemen in this hospital who treat the problem?”
“No hell,” she exclaimed, throwing her head back and laughing hysterically.
The Bronx native explained how the “response center” went from prison to hospital. A team of case workers, including former inmates, then work with the crime victim to prevent retaliation.
“Some of the people who are most effective in this business are the ex-gang members, the people who’ve done time at the Rikers,” said the progressive MP.
Adding to her comments, she tweeted: “Boycott violence works to keep us safe. Our mission is to build awareness and grassroots support around effective solutions and alternatives to mass incarceration.
Crime overall is up in its area, at 7,965 in the year to date compared to 7,629 in 2022. Compared to 2010, overall crime has increased by 59 percent.
This mirrors a broader crime wave sweeping across the rest of New York City.
The latest figures, published on Sunday, revealed that crime overall rose by 0.64 per cent. That may not sound like much, but compared to two years ago, it’s a 46 percent increase.
Compared to 2021, rape is up 8%, robbery is up 45%, assault is up 33%, burglary is up 23%, grand theft is up 54% and auto theft is up 91%.
Homicide was the only serious crime that fell, down 7 percent from two years ago.
“This is not what New Yorkers expect or deserve, and we are not going to stand for it,” New York Police Commissioner Keshant L. Sewell said earlier this month when revealing the latest data.
What we’re facing is obvious: a perception among criminals that there are no consequences, even for serious crimes. We need tangible changes.
Without naming names or going into specifics, Sewell appeared to criticize the recent trend toward policies such as bail reform, and Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg’s stance reducing or dropping charges for many crimes.
It (the system of justice) must be just, but first and foremost it must favor the people it is designed to protect and protect. When the focus is lost on those people — New Yorkers, who deserve freedom from fear — policies fail in their primary goal, which is public safety.
Every day New Yorkers need more help. Our police need more help. We need help from every corner of the criminal justice system, and from everyone who lives, works in, or visits our great city.
The latest increase in crime comes after Mayor Eric Adams promised last month to create a special subway police task force to tackle crime and homelessness in stations and on trains.
Adams, a Democrat and former NYPD captain, was elected on a pledge to crack down on crime and clean up the city.
