The NFL has suspended five players for violating the league’s gambling regulations.
Affected are Jameson Williams (22), Stanley Berryhill (24), Quintez Cephus (25) and CJ Moore (27) four players from the Detroit Lions, the club of the German-American wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, as well as Shaka Toney (25) from the Washington Commanders.
Williams, who was drafted by the Lions in the first round of last year’s draft, and Berryhill are suspended for six games. Cephus, Moore and Toney will be banned from playing indefinitely.
Detroit parted ways with wide receiver Cephus and Safety Moore for offenses. “The players violated the league’s gambling regulations and violated the club’s values,” said Lions CEO Brad Holmes.
Williams’ advisory agency, Alliance Sports, said in a statement that the violation was not a bet on an NFL game, but that Jameson placed a bet while still on club property . Jameson regrets his behavior and has already apologized to the NFL.
