Unexpected On-Screen Representation: Priyanka Chopra Jonas Shares Her Surprising Revelation

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has revealed that she never expected the onscreen acting she sees today and despite her success, she feels insecure in the acting profession.

The actress, 40, who got her start acting in Bollywood films, admitted she “never” expected a crossover between Hindi and Hollywood films when she got her start.

she said on Radio Times Podcast: “I never expected to see someone who looked like me on TV. The bar was very low. We had Indian films in India, and I thought, “Oh, this is our movie and this is their movie.”

Even as a child this distinction was clear. When I came to America, I began to search for my identity in English entertainment because I saw so many people who looked like me in the country consuming it.

There are many Indians, many people from other countries, many immigrants who come from all over the world. American entertainment was devoid of the representation of its populace’s melting pot.

With the explosion of the internet and streaming services, people from different countries can watch entertainment made from different parts of the world. I could not have imagined this when I first joined the industry.

Despite being one of the most famous actors in the world, Priyanka shared her doubts that she will ever make it.

The former Miss World winner said, “My film count is 70, my film count is 70. I used to shoot four films a year because I didn’t want to lose an opportunity.

I thought I would wake up one morning and it would be taken from me. For actors, your job is always precarious.

To gain stability, you must be able to create credibility in your work and deliver it consistently. This takes time!

It comes after Priyank opened up about equal pay with a male co-star for the first time in her career earlier this week.

The star first rose to fame in Bollywood at the age of 18 before heading to Hollywood in 2015 when she scored a role in the ABC thriller, Quantico – a role that caught the attention of her now husband, Nick.

Now she’s back in action as a spy in the upcoming Amazon Prime series Citadel, alongside Richard Madden, the heart of Game of Thrones.

“If your input, your time, and what you bring to the table are the same as your male counterpart, then there is a very serious conversation to be had about compensation,” she said.

It wasn’t a conversation I was encouraged to have for very long because it was only a given when you started in the movies that your male counterpart would get a much bigger paycheck. I think my generation of actresses really stood up for themselves.

“Really pushing the boundaries,” Priyanka added, Bollywood stars including Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif.

She also praised Mindy Kaling for writing her own shows after not acting, while also praising Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington and Nicole Kidman for creating roles for themselves.

While her promotional tour didn’t take her to Australia, she revealed that she’d love to visit if her husband’s band The Jonas Brothers were touring Down Under.

“I would like to take a Qantas flight because I like a long Qantas flight to Australia. I love to visit Melbourne; “It’s one of my favorite cities,” she said.

I love shooting somewhere in South Australia. It has been a long time since I visited Australia. I love the country, I love the people, I love the culture. So whether it’s with Nick or not, I want to come to Australia.
