Two plain packets of Tim Tam biscuits have sparked outrage among hundreds of angry Australians.
A customer noticed a subtle difference in the packaging of a few popular Tim Tam flavors – Original and Deluxe Dark Choc Mint.
After comparing the pair side by side, it turned out that one had fewer cookies than the other and more plastic.
Although both packs are the same length, the Original contains 11 biscuits and weighs 200g, while the Choc Mint contains only eight and weighs 175g.
“Australia’s biggest scam has been unpacked,” the customer continued to write Reddit.

Instead of focusing on the number of cookies in each pack, the customer was more concerned about the amount of plastic used.
“The photo shows the spacing of the deluxe, which is wasteful, and the package sizes are the same length, which is deceptive,” the customer wrote.
Others agreed with one person who wrote, “(It’s) still the same damn amount of plastic. I think that’s the outrage: polluting because of the marketing, because they’re afraid that a smaller package will sell less.’
Another added, “I thought the same thing, stupid amount of plastic for eight cookies.”
The Reddit post was liked by more than 7,800 people, and hundreds left a comment to share their thoughts.
Some suspected that the difference in packaging has to do with ‘marketing’ while others thought it had to do with shipping.

“It’s not just the smaller pack, it’s that they want the same size packs in the same size boxes so they look better when they’re stacked or on a shelf,” someone said.
“It probably has less to do with marketing than with production and shipping,” said another.
‘If everything is designed around a certain packaging size, it is much cheaper to reuse that packaging.’
Others weren’t surprised at the number of cookies in each pack, with one writing, “It literally shows on the front how many cookies are in each pack.”
‘Special flavors have always had less bikkies. But who will stop buying all those delicious flavors?’ added a second.
‘It says how many cookies there are and also what the net weight is. Definitely not a scam,” wrote a third.
