Mercedes has its oldest factory in Sindelfingen near Stuttgart, and employs around 35,000 people.
German police announced the arrest of a man suspected of shooting dead two people Thursday at the historic German Mercedes production site in Sindelfingen in southwestern Germany.
“A 53-year-old man entered the production hall at 7.45 and shot two people,” Ludwigsburg police wrote in a statement. “The two men, aged 44, succumbed to their injuries,” she added.
A Mercedes spokesman said the two victims and the suspect were employed by an outside service provider.
Mercedes has its oldest factory in Sindelfingen near Stuttgart, where the group is headquartered, and employs about 35,000 people.
The authorities said: “The factory security personnel neutralized the suspect in the production hall and then handed him over to the police, who arrested him.” The police confirmed that “the investigation into the circumstances of this act is continuing.”
The Sindelfingen factory produces very high-end Mercedes-branded cars, such as the “S” class and the luxury “Maybach” cars.
