Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, the grandson of Robert De Niro, has died, his mother confirmed in a statement. He was 19.
According to law enforcement sources cited by TMZ, the teenager was found dead while sitting in a chair in a New York City apartment on Sunday afternoon after a friend went to check on him after several days without contact.
His famous grandfather released a statement to Page Six, saying his family was mourning the loss. “I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo,” the actor said in a statement to Page Six via his rep. “We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
