NNA – Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdallah Bou Habib, addressednbsp;a letter to the Vice-President of the European Commission, Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, in which he denounced the European Parliament#39;s decision issued on 12/07/2023, related tonbsp;the file of the displaced Syrians and other matters.

In his letter, Bou Habib stressed quot;the need to launch a constructive and comprehensive dialogue between Lebanon and the European Union on all files, especially the Syrian displacement dossier, which has begun to pose a threat not only to the Lebanese social structure and economic stability, but also to the continued existence of Lebanon as an entity.quot;

Bou Habibnbsp;also expressed quot;Lebanon#39;s adherence to its rights and responsibilities in facilitating the safe and dignified return of the displaced Syrians to their homes, particularly to safe areas, in line with the principles of the international law, and in a manner that does not contradict withnbsp;the Lebanese constitutionnbsp;which states that Lebanon is not a country of asylum.quot;

He highlightednbsp;quot;the need for the international community to address the causes of Syrian displacement, as stated in the European Parliament#39;s decision, and to accelerate early recovery, including securing basic infrastructure and social services in Syria, in order to facilitate the return of the displaced.quot;

Bou Habibnbsp;reaffirmed Lebanon#39;s readiness to launch a dialogue with the European Union aimed at drawing up a road map for the safe and dignified return of the displaced Syrians to their country.

Finally, Bou Habib encouraged the formation ofnbsp;a comprehensive administrative advisory mission affiliated to the European Union Council tonbsp;look into the emergency needs of the Lebanese public sector andnbsp;the provision of basic services,nbsp;hoping to quot;launch a comprehensive and constructive Lebanese-European dialogue covering all fields, particularly the sensitive issue of the displaced.quot;
