A 6-year-old girl lost her life in Arizona following a horrific boating accident on Friday. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office reported that the child’s mother accidentally struck her with the boat’s propeller while they were on Lake Pleasant. The incident occurred after a group of 12 people, consisting of two families, had been out on the boat since 7 a.m.
At around 11 a.m., one of the families dialed 911 to report the devastating accident. According to the sheriff’s office, witnesses at the scene confirmed that the child’s mother was operating the boat when she began to drive without realizing that the child had somehow entered the water. Meanwhile, the father of the child, who was in the water holding onto a wakeboard, noticed someone in the water and immediately swam to the child’s aid.
The parents soon realized that their child was in the water, and her leg had been amputated by the boat’s propeller. The family rushed her to the lake’s marina, where first responders did their best to provide assistance. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
As the investigation continues, the sheriff’s office stated that impairment does not seem to be a contributing factor. MCSO detectives are looking into the details of the incident to determine what exactly happened.
