NASHVILLE – The Metro Nashville Police Department says a 10-year-old lost his life due to an accidental shooting by his 14-year-old stepbrother in a home near Percy Priest Lake.
The incident unfolded around 10:40 a.m. on Sunday in the 3400 block of Meadowlake Terrace, as per MNPD.
According to police, the child was upstairs playing video games with his 14-year-old stepbrother and 12-year-old brother. Their parents had left the house with two other children to run an errand.
During this period, the 14-year-old accessed a pistol stored at the top of the closet in an upstairs room and inadvertently shot the victim in the head.
Police say the teen and the child were unaware that the gun was loaded.
The injured child was immediately transported to Vanderbilt Hospital, but succumbed to the injuries.
Investigators have determined the incident to be an accidental shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
