Vivek Ramaswamy said he had no discussions with Donald Trump to join his ticket as vice president, but said he would seek advice from the former president if he wins in 2024.
The longshot candidate has gained momentum in the polls but is still a long way from the top spot for the GOP nomination.
As the main contenders headed to the Iowa State Fair this week, Ramaswamy stood out when he launched into an impromptu rendition of Eminem’s Lose Yourself after telling Gov. Kim Reynolds that rapping was his favorite song.
“During this campaign, we’ve all been able to have a little fun,” Ramaswamy told Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo the day after the show.

He added: “On a more serious note, Maria, one of the things we do in this campaign is we reach out to young people.” We take them en masse with us. The difference between a 50.1 electoral margin this cycle and a landslide is the young people. And I think this can’t just be a 50.1 Democrat versus Republican showdown.
“This must be a landslide victory,” insisted the biotech millionaire.
Many have speculated that some long-running candidates, like Ramaswamy, are actually running in the presidential race to run for Donald Trump’s vice-presidential position or to join his cabinet if he wins in 2024.
Ramaswamy denied this, saying he is going for the nomination.
While the Native American entrepreneur and author said he wouldn’t consider a job with former President Trump’s cabinet, he didn’t dismiss the prospects of running as his No. 2 when the main race is finished.
“I didn’t talk to (Trump) about being in his cabinet, and I didn’t talk to him about being in mine,” Ramaswamy told Bartiromo on Sunday morning.
“I started at 0.0% in March,” the candidate said. “And now I’m running third overall in the Republican national primary heading into the first debate, on the same trajectory as Trump in 2015.”
“So, Maria, I expect to be the candidate. I expect to win this election in a landslide.
Ramaswamy added that he did not join other candidates in attacking Trump because he “respects” the ex-president and “thinks he was a great president.”
“And we have a good relationship of mutual respect,” he added. “I expect him to be an adviser, even a kind of mentor, when I’m in the White House, to teach me where the bodies are buried, how to go further than he went .”
“That’s my mission with our first US program. And that’s the relationship I expect.
