The WhatsApp Desktop update will include a new lock screen feature, which requires a password to view conversations.
WABetaInfo discovered the new feature in WhatsApp Web beta 2.2333.11 and claims it will roll out to more users “in the coming weeks.”
The lock screen tool can be accessed in the privacy settings on the WhatsApp desktop.
When enabled, users are prompted to select a password and choose how often they would like to be prompted for the password.
Once this is set up, your WhatsApp messages will be locked and can only be accessed with the password.
Also, push notifications will not appear on your screen while it is locked.
“If you forget the password, you must log out of WhatsApp Web and log in again by scanning the QR code,” WABetaInfo explained.
While the lock screen feature is only available to some users with the latest WhatsApp Web beta, it has already stirred up some excitement on X (formerly Twitter).
“WhatsApp is amazing when it gives users more control over privacy,” one user tweeted.
Another called the new feature a “nice move,” while another added that it “increases security.”
WhatsApp already allows users to lock individual chats on the mobile app, through a feature called Chat Lock.
To block a chat, open the WhatsApp app and tap on the name of an individual or group chat.
You will see a lock option, which will ask you to enter your device’s password or biometrics to secure that chat.
“Locking a chat takes that thread out of the inbox and puts it behind its own folder that can only be accessed with your device’s password or biometrics, like a fingerprint,” WhatsApp explained in the blog post. .
“It also automatically hides the content of that chat in notifications.”
To reveal your locked chats, simply open your WhatsApp inbox and enter your phone’s password or biometrics.
