The heartbroken fiancé of a farmer left brain dead after a horrific accident has revealed the last thing he said to her was “I love you”.
George Hassett, 30, was a passenger in a car which collided with a truck in fog on the Hume Highway near Tarcutta, NSW on Friday.
Aly, his partner of four years and mother of their one-year-old twins Oliver and Cooper, spoke to Mr Hassett just before he left on the trip.
It was a short conversation where he asked her to rope up the horses, but more importantly, they then expressed their love for each other.
“George was airlifted to hospital in Canberra in a critical condition, suffering multiple injuries that even the toughest young man we know was ultimately unable to overcome,” the family friend wrote. Meg Dean on a GoFundMe fundraiser for Aly and his boys.

Mr Hassett has always wanted to donate his organs, Aly said, with several potential recipients set to undergo tests to see if they are a match.
“He just has a huge personality, he’s so kind and understanding,” she told the The telegraph of the day. “She’s just the best person you could ask for.”
The couple were due to wed in the Southern Highlands in November and Aly still plans to legally change her name to that of her beloved fiancé.
She said she and Mr Hassett were very similar, enjoying riding and living in the countryside.
Along with her own grief, Aly must also take care of her twins, who will grow up without their father, although they are still too young to understand him.
“They came to the hospital and recognized him, before touching his hand and saying goodbye,” she said.
Ms Dean said that “George has always looked out for others.
“We are asking people to please dig deep so that we can help Aly and the boys get through this horrible time, with general expenses while Aly is unable to work as she will be caring for her two little ones without George.”
By Tuesday night, the fundraiser had already raised around $110,000 for the family.

One contributor wrote that she had “worked with Aly many years ago”. I am truly devastated for her and her beautiful boys.
