Michael Cera reveals he personally emailed Greta Gerwig begging her to star in Barbie after his manager said he wouldn’t be interested

Michael Cera personally emailed Greta Gerwig to arrange a cameo in her Barbie movie after the actor’s manager almost “ruined it” for him.

The 35-year-old has revealed that his manager initially said he “probably wouldn’t want to be in the movie” because he didn’t think the star would be happy to go to London to shoot the hit.

But Cera is probably glad he defied that advice, as Barbie is set to break multiple box office records since its July 21 release.

Speak against GKhe said, “My manager got a call asking if I was available for it, and he called me and he said, ‘I got a call about this movie.’ It’s the ‘Barbie’ movie, Greta Gerwig is directing it and it’s filming in London for four months, so I said you probably wouldn’t want to do it.”

“I was like, ‘What? Call them back!’”

Fortunately for the Superbad star, all was not lost and he was eventually able to take on the role.

But not without taking matters into his own hands and personally emailing the director to arrange a cameo in the movie, starring Margot Robbie in the titular role and Ryan Gosling as Ken.

“He didn’t screw up or anything,” Cera continued.

“I somehow got Greta’s email address, I think through a mutual friend of ours, and I emailed her asking, ‘Can I be in it? Can I do that part?’

And she was like, “Let’s use a Zoom now. Here’s a Zoom link, I’ll be there in the next hour.”

So she just hung out on the Zoom, like, “Click the link when you’re ready.”

“And then we talked about it, and it all happened really fast from then on.”

Cera eventually appeared in the blockbuster comedy as Allan – a puppet introduced in 1964 as Ken’s best friend.

Unlike the large number of Barbie and Ken characters in the film, Cera is the one and only Allan.
