Amazon is offering $25 a video to influencers to help promote its new shopping feed called Inspire.
The low rate is being mocked on social media because creators can charge between $150 to $2,500.
Inspire is part of Amazon’s vision to build a social feed of shoppable content like TikTok or Instagram.
Amazon is offering to pay influencers $25 a video to promote its new TikTok-inspired shopping feed called Inspire, but some creators are balking at the low rate.
The tech giant sent out emails to some influencers requesting they create videos that advertise two or more of its products and offered $12,500 for a maximum of 500 videos, according to screenshots of the email posted on social media, and first reported by Bloomberg.
Qualifying content includes “a product review of two or more products, a product comparison video, a ranking video listing the best product in a certain category, or even gift inspiration featuring multiple products,” the screenshot reads.
It’s seeking a maximum of 35,000 videos for its feed which will cost $875,000, per the screenshot.
Amazon launched its new shopping feed called Inspire in December 2022 which enabled users to scroll through a social feed of shoppable content.
“In just a few taps, customers can discover new products or get inspiration on what to buy, all tailored to their interests, and then shop for those items on Amazon,” Oliver Messenger, director of Amazon Shopping told Insider in a statement at the time.
Inspire was part of Amazon’s larger vision to roll out “more shoppable features,” to build an “immersive shopping experience for customers, Messenger added.
Now it’s trying to bank on influencers to build its social feed even further but it will be difficult to get creators on board for just $25 a video. The average rate for User Generated Content is $212 per video and the most commonly requested rate is $150 a video, according to UGC company Brands Meet Creators.
Six UGC creators shared the rates they charged per video with Insider in February and it ranged from $150 to $2,500.
Some influencers have even taken to social media to mock the low rate. One user posted a screenshot of the message she received on X — previously known as Twitter.
One comment under the post said: “25$ per job lol Amazon can go find someone else to play that game.”
Another user commented: “SOOOOO Up To $25 / video. LOL no thanks.”
Insider contacted Amazon for comment but did not immediately hear back.
