Our daughter nearly died whilst being treated by Lucy Letby

After she fell ill, a Chester doctor told Felicity’s parents to prepare for the “worst-case scenario” but then suggested a last-minute transfer to Arrowe Park Hospital, a large acute care unit near Birkenhead experienced in treating seriously ill newborns. .

Felicity was in such bad shape that, as she lay in her incubator waiting for the ambulance to take her there, she was baptized by the hospital chaplain.

After being treated at Arrowe Park with a special lubricant that coats the lungs, as she had been twice at Chester, the girl’s condition began to improve.

“Thank God Felicity was transferred to Arrowe Park or she wouldn’t be alive today,” said Mr Whitfield, from Blacon, Chester.

Felicity, now a bright and energetic nine-year-old, was in Letby’s care when she collapsed. Letby, who was a nursing student at the time, was reassigned to another baby, a twin boy, who suffered a fatal collapse soon after, Whitfield said. The reason for Letby’s reassignment is unknown, though it is likely that she was rotated as part of her training.
