NNA – The Tanzanian authorities released on bail three people, including a former deputy, who were arrested after they criticized a deal with Dubai Ports World to manage the country#39;s ports.
According to human rights activists, MP and former diplomat Willibrod-Sala and two other activists were arrested over the weekend after they criticized a deal signed by President Samia Soloho Hassan with DP World.
Critics of the deal considered it a threat to Tanzanian sovereignty. On the other hand, the government defended it, asserting that it would improve efficiency, reduce costs and raise revenues.
A lawyer representing the activists confirmed their release on Friday, while the former diplomat, Sala, said he had quot;returned to his residencenbsp;on bail,quot; asnbsp;reported by quot;Agence France-Pressequot;.
