Grant Denyer recalls one of the darkest days of his opioid addiction.
That said the 45-year-old television presenter Jess Rowe’s big talk show this weekend that he once disappeared under the influence of painkillers.
His wife, Chezzi, spent hours looking for him after he walked into the night in Sydney’s Chinatown wearing only underwear.
“I wanted some whiskey one night, for whatever reason, and just wandered around town in my underwear, got lost in the fire escape on my way back to the apartment.
“I didn’t know where my apartment was and fell asleep on the fire escape. It took Chez three or four hours to find me,’ he said.

Grant went on to say that he would hallucinate that people broke into his house and sexually assaulted Chez, and that his wife “has PTSD” from the experience of caring for him during that time.
“When you’re on that kind of drug and in so much pain, when you close your eyes at night, you immediately go into your worst nightmares, and that’s every night,” Grant said.
“When you wake up, you can’t tell what was real and what wasn’t.”
The former host of Family Feud has battled a highly publicized painkiller addiction in the past, after breaking his back in a freak monster truck accident in 2008.
The crash left Grant with a vertebra shattered into 11 pieces, and doctors feared he might never walk again.

Grant went on to say that he would hallucinate that people broke into his home and sexually assaulted Chez, and that his wife “has PTSD” from the experience of caring for him.
He explained that during his recovery he once pelted eggs at his wife Chezzi when he was hungry.
“I decided to crash off and that was… when I went missing…,” he told Abbie Chatfield, Alli Simpson and Toni Pearen.
“Mate, I threw eggs at her (Chezzi) one night. I cracked it for some reason. I was hungry and in pain and confused and I just started throwing eggs at her.
“She doesn’t deserve this, but you just can’t stop.”
In 2014, Grant went to a wellness center in Thailand that specializes in treating PTSD and exhaustion.
The popular presenter made a remarkable recovery, made a triumphant return to TV screens and eventually won a Gold Logie.
