Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska meet Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia before joining Crown Princess Mary in Denmark

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska met with various European royalty over the weekend.

The couple were first welcomed by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia at Stenhammar Palace in Flen, south-west of Stockholm, yesterday before traveling to Denmark today.

Upon their arrival at Skrydstrup Air Base in Vojens, they were received by Danish Crown Princess Mary, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Defense Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.

Proving her fashion prowess, Mary, 51, wore sleek brown trousers paired with a white blouse, cinched at the waist with a chic belt. She completed her look with beige heels.

Ukraine’s first lady, meanwhile, looked equally stylish in a cream pantsuit, while her husband sported an unassuming black shirt and green trousers.

Mr Zelensky’s visit to Denmark was revealed by the Danish Prime Minister’s office on Sunday after announcing his decision to supply F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

Zelensky hailed the deal – struck by the Netherlands and Denmark to deliver the planes – as historic, CNN reports. “I’m very grateful,” he added.

The war-torn country’s leader was in Sweden yesterday and also met King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia – the same day a missile attack in Chernihiv killed seven and injured dozens others.

It was his first visit to the country since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Mr Zelensky condemned the missile attack, which he said hit buildings including a theater and a university.

“That’s what a neighborhood with a terrorist state is, that’s what we unite the whole world against. A Russian missile hit right in the center of the city, in our Chernihiv,” he wrote on Telegram.

In Sweden, Mr Zelensky met with officials at Harpsund, the prime minister’s official summer residence, about 75 miles west of Stockholm.

During a joint press conference, Zelensky and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced that the two countries had agreed to strengthen their cooperation in the production, training and maintenance of Swedish infantry fighting vehicles. CV-90.

As part of the deal, Zelensky said, Swedish CV-90 vehicles will begin production in Ukraine. He also stressed the importance of providing Ukraine with modern aircraft.

“We don’t have superiority in the air and we don’t have modern aircraft. In fact, the Swedish Gripen is the pride of your country, and I believe the prime minister could share that pride with Ukraine,” Zelensky said, adding that “appropriate action” would be taken in the coming weeks. to “open up the possibility of obtaining the appropriate aircraft”.

“I am confident that we, together with our partners, will do everything and get the appropriate result in the skies so that the Russians don’t have an advantage there,” he said.

Mr Kristersson expressed his condolences to Mr Zelensky for the Chernihiv attack. He called the Russian missile strike an “act of brutality” that “only reinforces the need for us to stand with you in all your struggles.”

Sweden has abandoned its longstanding policy of military non-alignment to support Ukraine with arms and other aid in the war against Russia.

The government says Sweden has provided 20 billion crowns (£1.43 billion) in military support to Ukraine. Sweden has also applied for NATO membership but is still waiting to join the alliance.
