“Gardiel was just starting his career in law enforcement and was a rising star who took pride in serving one of our communities when he was tragically murdered,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Senseless gun violence has once again taken someone who pledged to protect others.”

My office stands with the Downey and Monterey Park police departments and the rest of law enforcement in Los Angeles County to support Gardiel’s family and friends during this time of mourning and grieving.”

Delcid was charged with one count each of murder, attempted robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon with the special circumstance allegation that the murder was committed during a robbery.

On August 8, Officer Solorio had just arrived in a Downey parking lot when Delcid allegedly got out of a nearby vehicle and appeared to demand Solorio’s personal items. As Solorio put his car in reverse, the defendant allegedly shot Solorio five times at close range.
