Frasier star Kelsey Grammer returns in the first trailer for Paramount+ revival series… as the warm-hearted psychiatrist reunites with his adult son in Boston

Kelsey Grammer returns as his most iconic character in the first official trailer for his new revival of Frasier.

The Paramount+ series, in which the eponymous psychiatrist moves to Boston after leaving his home in Seattle, charts his attempts to restart his relationship with his adult son Frederick “Freddy” Crane (Jack Cutmore-Scott).

Along the way, Grammer, 68, makes plenty of jokes about Frasier’s hoity-toity mannerisms as he hangs out with his equally well-educated friends at a bar.

Although the new Frasier is ostensibly a revival of the popular 1990s and 2000s series of the same name, the film features few original cast members besides its star.

Missing from the new ensemble are John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father and died in 2018, David Hyde Pierce, who played Frasier’s brother Niles, and Jane Leeves, who played Niles’ future wife Daphne.

Frasier, who was first introduced to audiences in the hugely popular sitcom Cheers before getting his own spin-off series, shares his son Freddy with his ex-wife Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth).

The mother-son duo had originally lived in Boston during the original show’s timeline, although Neuwirth and original Frederick actor Trevor Einhorn made cameo appearances in the series.

By the time Frasier moves to the East Coast, Freddy is now an adult and living with his girlfriend Eve (Jess Salgueiro).

Frasier highlights his new location in the opening lines of the trailer, while also referencing his history as a regular bartender on Cheers.

“What is it about the city of Boston that makes me abandon the more refined temptation of the fermented grape?” he says haughtily, holding a mug of beer.

“As I sit here with a cold brew in my hand, I feel one with the hoi polloi,” he says proudly.

“You’re the classic common man,” jokes his friend Alan Cornwall. Nicholas Lyndhurst plays Alan, a college friend of Frasier who is now a professor in Boston.

“Frasier is back,” the trailer then declares on a title card.

Frasier’s unexpected reunion with his son Freddy is next discussed.

“Freddy, surprise!” he shouts as his son walks to the door of his apartment.

“Dad!” replies a shocked Freddy. “You’re at my door – unannounced!”

However, Frasier is not deterred by it. “There’s a shorter way to say that: Surprise!”

The trailer adds that Frasier is “basically the same” as he makes his clumsy entrance into his son’s previously independent life.

Back at the bar, Frasier’s mood has deteriorated as he recounts his encounter with his son to his friends.

“What’s wrong with your son?” asks Olivia (Toks Olagundoye), chair of an Ivy League psychology department.

‘I wish I knew. He has a girlfriend that I’ve never heard of,” he says with images of his meeting with Eve. “When I told him I wanted to spend more time with him, he said no!”
