Weather in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth: Temperatures expected to break records in major cities

Perth is facing what could be its hottest September day in almost 150 years.

Forecasts predict temperatures in Perth on Wednesday could reach a maximum of 34°C, significantly higher than the city’s usual September average of 21.6°C.

If this prediction is true, it could be the highest September temperature ever recorded in Perth, surpassing the previous record of 34.2°C set in 2014.

Weather zone meteorologist Aline Ribeiro suggests a trough could lead to this record temperature today.

Wednesday could be Perth’s hottest day since records began in 1876 (photo, Cottesloe Beach)

“There is a trough bringing in a warm air mass from the Pilbara region and delaying the sea breeze (which would cool temperatures),” she told Daily Mail Australia.

“There is a risk of very hot temperatures in Perth today – it will be the hottest day of the fortnight.

“It’s definitely well above average for the month – it’s going to be really hot.”

However, the sweltering heat won’t last too long.

“Tomorrow will also be hot before a cool change comes on Friday,” Ms Ribeiro said.

This change should bring temperatures back to around 20°C.

But as the West Coast cools, the East Coast will warm up.

Showers hanging around Sydney on Wednesday and Thursday are expected to dissipate on Friday as temperatures warm.

A high of 28°C and 27°C is forecast for Friday and Saturday before a high of 34°C on Sunday.

Melbourne will also experience a hot weekend with maximum temperatures rising from 17°C and 21°C on Wednesday and Thursday to 25°C and 28°C on Friday and Saturday.

High temperatures this weekend are expected to be accompanied by sunny conditions.

Wednesday is shaping up to be the hottest day for Brisbane this week with a high of 31°C.

These temperatures are expected to drop as rainy and cloudy conditions move over the city starting Thursday.

Hobart is also expected to experience cloudy weather from Wednesday with high temperatures hovering between 15C and 20C.

A trough is expected to push a warm air mass out of the Pilbara region while curbing the sea breeze.

Clouds over Adelaide will clear from Wednesday for a mostly sunny Thursday and clear skies on Friday.

Temperatures in the South Australian capital are expected to peak on Saturday with a maximum of 30C.

The weather in Darwin is expected to be warm, dry and sunny with clear skies and temperatures around 30C forecast for next week.
