An Audi driver accused of derailing and injuring a motorcyclist in an alleged road rage attack on one of Sydney’s busy roads has been charged and his license suspended.
The development emerged on Wednesday after terrifying footage of Saturday’s crash on the Hume Highway near the Campbelltown Road viaduct near Casula went viral.
A terrifying dashcam of the alleged incident shows a motorcycle and a silver Audi crossing a lane between lanes moments before the collision.
The Audi is shown following in the right lane before accelerating and colliding with the motorcycle, sending the rider across four lanes of traffic before crashing into a barrier.
The man was charged and his license was suspended for the incident on Saturday.
Police say the Audi sedan then drove off.
The footage also shows several passing motorists stopping and rushing to the aid of the injured motorcyclist on the road.
The motorcyclist, aged 50, was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
While police were at the scene of the accident, the driver of the Audi returned and spoke to officers.
The 55-year-old man gave a negative breathalyzer test.
The police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Following investigations, police charged the 55-year-old man with careless/furious driving or speed/dangerous manner, and causing bodily harm by misconduct while operating a motor vehicle.
He will appear in Campbelltown Local Court on November 21.
The man’s driver’s license was also suspended.
