Animal lovers have been left emotional after a disheveled cat whose life hung in the balance was saved by a kind-hearted stranger.
A woman called Haley took to TikTok to reveal how she was walking in California’s Bay Area when she spotted “a bony orange butt” sticking out of a huge pile of trash on the side of the road.
She quickly turned to inspect the unusual shape and came across a disheveled feline, whom she named “Shambles”, determined to give him a loving home because he “never knew a life without pain.” .
Shambles was on the verge of death and “would not have lasted a few more days” in his condition, according to the cat advocate.
People were left heartbroken by images of the animal suffering, with one person going so far as to say she would “die for the mess”.
The feline named Shambles (pictured) was found on the side of the road after Haley spotted him among the bins. She thinks he probably would have only lasted a few more days if she hadn’t found out.
The woman who wants to one day open her own animal shelter said she “had to go back” for the cat.
THE Tic Tac video which now has 5.2 million views, shows a shy orange cat staring shyly with its big yellow eyes.
Haley revealed that the animal was so weak and hungry that it began trying to eat the trash around it.
However, his paws were badly injured, burned, and suffering from rotting and degloving – so he could do very little movement.
Degloving is a terrible injury, meaning the top layers of skin and tissue begin to break away from the underlying bones, muscles, or connective tissue.
In humans, degloving mainly impacts the legs and is often linked to underlying fractures.
It’s likely that if Shambles hadn’t been rescued, he would have only survived a few more days due to life-threatening issues, according to Haley.
The feline has made progress in his recovery, but the veterinarian reportedly told the cat advocate that there was nothing he could do about Shambles’ long-lasting kidney failure, which was likely caused by ingesting toxic materials while he was was in the trash heap.
Part of the video featured the heartbreaking journey of getting the two-year-old feline back to health, from veterinary assessments to nursing care, with food and a dry place to rest.
Throughout the touching videos, the cat advocate can be seen kissing and showing lots of love to the animal who “has probably never known a life without suffering.”
On September 16, Haley posted an update on Shambles after being inundated with requests.
Fortunately, the feline is still alive with fully healed paws. Shambles’ anemia was also cured after a trip to the vet, according to the cat’s rescuer.
But it wasn’t all positive news for the animal, as the vet was unable to resolve his “long-lasting kidney damage.”
The damage to the animal’s organs was likely caused by it eating something toxic while it was starving among the trash.
Haley told more than 29,000 people: “It breaks my heart to think of him so hungry outside that he ate something that did this to his little body.”
She added: “I will do everything I can to make sure these boys live many happy years to make up for the time they have spent on the streets.”
Viewers flooded the comments with messages of support for the animal who has endured a lot of suffering in its short life, with one writing: “The mayhem deserves the world.”
