Rep. Ilhan Omar shockingly called for international protection and support for the Palestinians after their fundamentalist terror group Hamas carried out a brutal terrorist attack on Israel.
The progressive Minnesota congresswoman expressed her condolences for the people in the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip, amid widespread criticism of her and her colleagues’ response to the violence.
“Reminder: Gaza has no shelters or an iron dome and please pray for them,” Omar wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “May peace prevail in the region and move us toward a moral awakening to concern about the human suffering we see.”
“Palestinians are people under siege and who deserve protection from the international community,” she added.
Omar is one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress – along with Palestinian-American Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who has remained noticeably silent about the recent terrorist attack.

In her post Saturday evening, Omar responded to MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan, who claimed that Israel’s attacks on civilians in Gaza only help Palestinian terrorists who are part of Hamas.
“Strategically, killing civilians in Gaza who are not Hamas will not hurt Hamas, it will help them in the long run,” he claimed in a message to an “overwhelming” show of force is not moral. It’s immoral.’

“No child and family should ever suffer this kind of violence and fear, and this violence will not solve the ongoing oppression and occupation in the region.”
“An immediate ceasefire and de-escalation are urgently needed to save lives.”

Rep. Omar said: “I condemn the heinous acts we see taking place in Israel today against children, women, the elderly and unarmed people who are being slaughtered and held hostage by Hamas.”
“Such senseless violence will only repeat the back-and-forth cycle that we have seen and cannot allow to continue. We must call for de-escalation and a ceasefire. I will continue to advocate for peace and justice throughout the Middle East.”
Rep. Omar’s statement drew criticism from conservative pundits.
“She will never acknowledge that there was peace in the Middle East and Europe when Trump was in power,” said Rachel Campos-Duffy, co-host of FOX & Friends Weekend.
Conservative commentator John Hasson said: ‘Note how she condemns only the acts against ‘children, women, the elderly and the unarmed.’ She implies that attacking/killing IDF forces is fine.”

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Cori Bush and Rep. Greg Casar have made no statements about the attacks in Israel.
