‘Squad’ member Ilhan Omar is once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons after she posted a photo claiming to show Palestinian children in Gaza who have been killed in the ongoing conflict in the wake of Hamas’s attack on Israel.
In reality, the photo shows the killing of a group of Syrian children after a sarin gas attack in 2013. The post came less than a week after Omar’s teammate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned against posting false information.
“The level of disinformation in all directions is incredibly high right now, especially on this platform,” AOC wrote on pause and check for veracity/corroboration from multiple sources,” the Bronx congressman added.
That warning went unheeded by Omar, who reposted the image with the caption: “CHILD GENOCIDE IN PALESTINE.” The original image appeared in National Geographic. The caption described the children in Eastern Ghouta as having “succumbed to chemical weapons poisoning.”
At the time of writing, the image has been removed from Omar’s page.

Gaza’s health ministry said 2,450 Palestinians, including nearly 800 children, were killed and 9,200 others injured during a week of Israeli airstrikes that razed apartment buildings, offices and mosques.
One group that attacked the Minnesota representative was the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which retweeted AOC’s original post with a screenshot of Omar’s inaccurate post, which was originally uploaded by “investigative journalist” Sulaiman Ahmed.
“You mean like that, @AOC? @IlhanMN spreads dangerous disinformation and accuses Israel of killing children killed by Assad in Syria a decade ago. Once again, the Squad will not let the facts get in the way of their anti-Israel narrative,” the organization said.
In separate messages, AIPAC highlighted two Hamas-affiliated accounts spreading misinformation, something Elon Musk was warned about by the European Union last week.
Omar has not commented on the incorrect message, although she has continued to spread messages criticizing Israel, in particular the IDF’s order for Palestinians to move south from northern Gaza.
“The mass expulsion of more than 1 million people every day is ethnic cleansing. The UN has already said this is “impossible” and will have “devastating humanitarian consequences.” We must stop ignoring the thousands of Palestinian lives lost and the millions at stake! We must use all diplomatic means to prevent this,” Omar wrote.
Last week, a New York congressman railed against Omar after the Minnesota Democrat claimed Israel should not fight back against Hamas and called its military efforts a “war crime.”

On Monday, Omar said she was against an Israeli military response, saying that “peace and justice will not come out of the barrel of a gun.”
Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican representing New York’s 17th Congressional District, wrote on
‘You are crazy and unfit for the House of Representatives. That is why you were removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee.”
In February, Omar was removed from the committee, with fellow Republicans in Congress citing her past anti-Israel rhetoric as the reason.
More than 900 people were killed in Hamas’s surprise terror attack on Israel last weekend.
In her statement on Monday, Omar attacked Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s actions against Hamas, calling it “collective punishment” and a “war crime.”
“Israeli’s defense minister has called the Palestinians ‘human animals’ and promised to cut off all electricity, food and fuel to civilians in Gaza,” she said.
Omar is a member of the left-wing group of Democrats in Congress known as The Squad.
They have made their position on Israel abundantly clear over the years. Some of them boycotted Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s speech to Congress earlier this year.

On Monday, Omar said on
“As the world condemns Hamas’ attacks, we must also oppose an Israeli military response that has already cost the lives of hundreds of Palestinians, including nearly two dozen children.”
She added: “The solution to this horror is, as always, a negotiated peace – with Israelis and Palestinians enjoying equal rights and security guarantees.
“Rather than continue unconditional arms sales and military aid to Israel, I urge the United States to finally use its diplomatic power to broker peace,” added the Democrat, who has been accused of to marry her brother.
Gates McGavick, the communications director for the Republican National Committee, was also angered by Omar’s words.
“This is the literal definition of negotiating with terrorists,” he wrote.
