Tyler Perry goes to great lengths to help a 93-year-old grandmother as the filmmaker plans to build her a brand new house.
Josephine Wright of Hilton Head, South Carolina is embroiled in a legal battle with a land development company called Bailey Point Investment Group over her home, which she says has been in her family since the Civil War.
Wright said the development company offered to buy her house, but when she refused, they began harassing and threatening her, even filing a lawsuit to take control of the property.
Although Wright’s fight to keep her home is still not over, Perry is building Wright a brand new five-bedroom home for her and her grandchildren to live in, the newspaper said. TMZ.
Perry — who helped Kerry Washington promote her new book during a tour stop in Atlanta — and his construction crew will begin work in the coming weeks once permits are finalized.

Wright told the local Hilton Head news affiliate WSAV in May that Bailey Point tried to get her to sell her property through a “frivolous lawsuit.”
The company says her home’s porch is somehow located on the property they purchased, which is under construction across the street, even though the porch is 20 feet from the road.
Wright — a grandmother of 40, a great-grandmother of 50 and a great-great-grandmother of 16 — said her husband’s relatives escaped slavery and were freed by Union soldiers, and that the house means a lot to her.
“I’ve been a fighter pretty much my whole life,” Wright said in the news report, which seemed to have struck a chord with Perry.
While many of her neighbors have begun the fight against the land developers, Perry pledged his help in late June.
He posted the WSAV report on Josphine on his Instagram, saying, “I’ve been a fighter pretty much my whole life,” said 93-year-old Josephine Wright,” Perry began.
‘Then there are two of us. Ms. Wright, please tell us where to show up and what you need to help you fight,” Perry added.
Others, like celebrity chef Kardea Brown, Fantasia Taylor and film producer Will Packer, also pledged to help in any way they can.

Her family launched a GoFundMe to help pay for mounting legal costs for the lawsuit, which has raised $363,000 so far.
An update from Charise Graves in mid-September revealed that a tree had fallen on the roof of Josephine’s house.
“After we had a wonderful weekend celebrating and honoring Grandma Josephine in Bluffton at the Roots & Rivers Festival and after a powerful yoga session at her home on Sunday, the tree decided to give up and give in,” Charise said .
‘Grandma Josephine was not at home and fortunately no one was injured. I can’t say the same about the house. She suffered two holes in her roof,” she added.
‘Don’t worry, grandma is still smiling! She knows that we are in God’s hands, and that no weapon will prosper against us. Not now… Never,” she concluded.
