Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim has responded to speculation that he could become Manchester United’s next manager.
United have had a torrid start to the season under Erik ten Hag, losing eight of 15 games, and this week saw them lose 3-0 at home to Manchester City and Newcastle.
Ten Hag is under pressure to turn things around quickly, and it has been reported that Amorim and Zinedine Zidane have been lined up as potential replacements for the Dutchman if the club’s current situation continues.
Amorim has been linked with a move to the Premier League over the past year and a half after impressing in the dugout in Portugal, but he refused to give too much away when asked about the possibility of him moving to Old Trafford .
“This year I’m not going back to the same conversation as last year,” he said when asked whether he could be tempted by a move to United after Sporting’s 4-2 win over Farense in the Portuguese Cup on Thursday.

‘I’m not going to comment on these situations. We don’t know the future, it depends on the results.’
Amorim went on to suggest he has a good idea of how he wants things to proceed in the coming months, but kept his cards close to his chest before revealing he has not yet spoken to United.
“As for the future, I have an idea for the end of the season, but I’m not going to say it now. But the results and the context take us to something else,” he added.
‘I don’t want to comment on these things. Manchester United have not contacted me.’
Amorim is said to have a release clause of around ten million euros in his Sporting contract.
Asked whether his position would change if the clause came into effect, he replied: ‘I’m not going to comment on that.
“I will respect the contract, everything it says will be fulfilled.”
Amorim has been in charge of Sporting since March 2020 and has never played football outside Portugal.
Amorim, who is still just 38, led Sporting to their first league title in 19 years in his first full season in 2020/21, and also won the Portuguese League Cup and the Portuguese Super Cup twice during his time at the club.
