This is the first time rates have gone down since the first week of September. </p> <p>US 10-year Treasury yields, which mortgage rates typically follow, dropped sharply this week following the Federal Reserve's announcement that it will <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/interest-rates-november-fed-decision-no-increase-cut-inflation-powell-2023-11">keep the federal funds rate steady</a> at least until its next meeting. As long as inflation continues to slow and the economy cools, it's likely the Fed is done hiking rates for the year, which is good news for mortgage rates.</p> <p>However, Fed Chair Jerome Powell did note that the Fed is willing to raise rates once more if inflation doesn't appear to be coming down sufficiently.
