A teenage girl was allegedly brutally raped after being dragged into bushes in an idyllic seaside town on Friday evening.
The 17-year-old girl was walking home near Arrawarra Beach, north of Coffs Harbour, on the NSW mid north coast, around 7.30pm when she was confronted by a man and allegedly been sexually assaulted.
Police arrested a man at a campsite and accommodation area in Arrawarra around 5pm on Sunday.
Little Arrawarra, on the NSW mid-north coast, was the scene of an alleged brutal rape of a teenage girl who was attacked on Friday night and dragged into the bushes.
Officers from NSW Police’s Coffs Harbour-Clarence district have attended a site where hundreds of seasonal workers from a nearby berry farm are currently living.
The man was taken to Coffs Harbor Police Station where he is “assisting police with their investigation”. No charges have been filed.
This incident follows another that occurred a week ago, when a young woman allegedly hid in a toilet cubicle after being chased by a man she believed to be an alcoholic.
Residents told Daily Mail Australia that up to 400 pickers are housed at a holiday park and bused daily to a nearby farm.
The man interviewed is believed to be a seasonal worker from the labor pool hired into the main harvesting areas of New South Wales from Pacific island countries and Timor-Leste.
Arrawarra village is a destination for surfers, caravanners, backpackers and visitors thanks to its waterside location.
