Jonnie Irwin has revealed he is in hospital and being observed every four hours after experiencing jaundice, fever and pain on his right side.
The 49-year-old presenter of A Place in The Sun, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer after a tumor in his lung spread to his brain and is now on a drip, tried to remain optimistic as he said it was all part was part of the roller coaster of life. ahead of his birthday this Friday.
Posting a photo from his hospital bed to his Instagram, Jonnie told fans: ‘Back in hospital – been in since Friday with jaundice.
‘I had a fever and acute shooting pain in my right side. It turns out I probably had an infection and otter problems, which I won’t bore you with.’
He added: I have been on a drip, taking regular blood tests and having observations every four hours, day and night.

‘I didn’t think I’d be watching @bbcmorninglive from a hospital bed, but it’s just part of the rollercoaster life this disease has to offer.’
He continued: “I must admit that I was especially touched by the birthday message from the team for my birthday next Friday. Thank you.
‘Today I have another scan, followed by a meeting with my oncologist, so fingers crossed for positive news.’
Jonnie plans to celebrate his 50th birthday, despite doctors thinking he wouldn’t live until 2023.
The presenter is heading to Spain to celebrate his big day on November 18, amid his terminal battle with cancer.
The star revealed last November that his cancer had spread from his lungs to his brain after he was initially diagnosed in 2020.
Yet Jonnie’s incredible strength led him to celebrate his twins’ third birthday in June, a milestone medical professionals thought he would never experience.
Speak with The sun, the father-of-three admitted: ‘When I was in hospice I thought I’d had it. I was on the brink of death.’

Two weeks before Rafa and Cormac’s birthday, Jonnie weighed just six stone and was too weak to walk.
‘At my weakest point I thought: ‘This is it, this is the beginning of the end’. I couldn’t eat, I had incredible pain in my back and was skin and bones,” he added.
But Jonnie refused to give up, and once he got home to his family, he began forcing himself out of bed, drinking protein shakes and spending hours in an oxygen tent in an attempt to curb the disease’s growth.
With the help of treatment, including chemotherapy, he has now built up his strength and weighs 8st 6lbs.
“I don’t let cancer define me,” he added.
