Le Creuset Black Friday FAQs
Is Le Creuset worth it?
Yes. Le Creuset makes exceptional cookware both in performance and appearance. The pieces are pricey, so we’re tracking the best Le Creuset Black Friday sales. You can get great cast iron from more budget-friendly brands like Lodge Cast Iron, but we stand by Le Creuset for enameled cast iron statement pieces.
What’s the difference between seasoned and enameled cast iron?
Enameled cast iron is raw cast iron with a thin coat of glaze fired onto it — this makes it less reactive to acidic ingredients, eliminates the need for seasoning, and makes the cookware easier to clean. Le Creuset is known for enameled cast iron, which is why its cookware has deep and varied colors. If you chip the enamel, you can still use the pan since it’s just raw cast iron underneath. However, part of the appeal of enameled cast iron is the appearance, so a chip in the finish is far from ideal.
Seasoned cast iron is quite possibly the most durable cookware material you can find. It gets better the more you use it, as oils seep into the metal and build up a nearly nonstick seasoning layer. Simmering acidic ingredients, like tomatoes and lemons, can strip the pan of seasoning in some areas, but it’s an easy fix. Damaged the seasoning? Just follow the manufacturer’s instructions to reseason. Left the pan damp, and it rusted? Grab an abrasive sponge, clean thoroughly, and reseason.
Is Le Creuset cookware hard to care for?
To keep your Le Creuset cookware in the best shape possible, there are few important tips. Contrary to popular belief, you can use soap and water to clean even seasoned cast iron. The most important rule, for seasoned and enameled pieces, is to never leave them wet. Check the instructions that come with your Le Creuset piece, but we find it easy to place our damp cast iron cookware over a low heat on our cooktop to completely dry it out before storing it.
Avoid using metal utensils on your Le Creuset enameled cast iron. It’s not easy to chip the enamel finish, but it is possible.
