<p>During a recent “directors on directors” interview for <em>Variety</em>, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/keyword/bradley-cooper">Bradley Cooper</a> complimented Washington’s 2016 adaptation of <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/how-august-wilson-heard-black-america-the-brilliance-of-jitney-on-broadway">August Wilson</a>’s <em><a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-black-boxing-legend-who-inspired-fences">Fences</a>—</em>which prompted a surprising revelation from Lee.</p>
