Sylvester Stallone’s latest movie, “Samaritan,” hits Prime Video on August 26. The Amazon original film is directed by Julius Avery (“Overlord”).
“Samaritan” follows Sam Clearly, a 13-year-old boy who comes to believe that his mysterious neighbor is actually a famous superhero who went missing 25 years ago. Sylvester Stallone plays Joe Smith, aka Samaritan, who was believed to have perished in a battle against his former rival, aptly named Nemesis. As crime rates rise in the city, Sam must convince Samaritan to finally come out of hiding.

The cast of “Samaritan” also includes Javon Walton (“Euphoria”), Martin Starr (“Freaks and Geeks”), Moisés Arias (“Hannah Montana”), and Dascha Polanco (“Orange Is the New Black”). While originally written as a spec script, “Samaritan” was first adapted into a graphic novel series in 2014.
How to watch ‘Samaritan’
You can watch “Samaritan” exclusively on Prime Video starting August 26. But, since Prime Video typically releases new content at 12 a.m. GMT, US subscribers should be able to stream the movie as early as 7 p.m. ET on August 25.
On its own, a Prime Video subscription costs $9 a month, but this option only applies to the video service. In order to gain full access to Amazon Prime’s benefits, you need to sign up for a full Prime membership at $15 a month or $139 a year. Students can get 50% off Prime memberships, bringing the cost down to $7.50 a month.

What is ‘Samaritan’ based on?
“Samaritan” started out as a spec script written by Bragi F. Schut. Before the movie was picked up, however, Schut adapted the story into a series of graphic novels released by Mythos Comics in 2014. So, while the movie was actually written first, the comic adaptation was published first.
