An amateur effort to find missing mother Samantha Murphy is in tatters and a close family friend suddenly announced she was deleting a key Facebook group.

The administrator of ‘Find Samantha Murphy’, which has gathered thousands of members since the mother-of-three disappeared from her East Ballarat home on Sunday, February 4, announced she would be deleting the group on Monday.

It comes after authorities narrowed the official search for Ms Murphy at the weekend.

Cin Hobbs, who runs the Facebook group, said: “This group has served its purpose and we have been given the green light to remove it.”

“This is a huge mission in itself, since I have to eliminate all the members… the best thing you can do for her is to help speed up the process by eliminating yourself.”

The administrator of ‘Find Samantha Murphy’, which has gathered thousands of members since the mother-of-three disappeared from her East Ballarat home on Sunday, February 4, announced she would be deleting the group on Monday.

It is understood the group was removed after personal attacks and infighting occurred.

The group had more than 20,000 members last week amid intense speculation about Murphy’s disappearance and citizen efforts to find her.

Hobbs wrote that he will continue to “scream” for Murphy’s return and left his followers with a heartfelt message.

“My message remains the same, be kind, it costs nothing, but don’t be so kind that you have nothing to give to take care of yourself,” she wrote.

    ‘Praying for a miracle.’
