Former GOP Rep. George Santos maintained his wry sense of humor on Tuesday, trolling his former colleagues on X after election results indicated his former House seat would be filled by a Democrat.

Santos’ former seat will be filled by Democrat Tom Suozzi, shrinking the thin Republican majority in the House. Suozzi defeated Republican Mazi Pilip in the race for the seat to represent New York’s 3rd congressional district.

“Hey Americans! Please thank these two gems for losing a seat in the house today!” Santos posted alongside a photo of GOP Reps. Nick LaLota and Anthony D’Esposito, who supported Santos’ ouster from the House after he was charged with 23 total counts connected to alleged wire fraud, money laundering, and identity theft.

Santos has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

“George Santos deserves to be in prison, not in Congress. He lied to voters, donors, and party leaders to get to this point, committing numerous acts of fraud,” LaLota said in an October statement, announcing his introduction of a resolution to expel Santos from the House. “He has had plenty of time to do the right thing and resign. Since he hasn’t shown any ounce of integrity or a moral compass, the only logical step is to expel him from Congress. New York and the House will be better off when he is behind bars.”

An ethics report later found that Santos had deceived donors and misused political donations to his campaign, spending donor funds on Botox, OnlyFans, and luxury goods from Hermes. He called the report a political “smear.”

In a separate post, Santos wrote simply “-1,” referring to the lost GOP seat.
