The recently arrested 18-year-old son of GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert was all smiles Wednesday during a virtual court hearing related to his booking in connection to a spate of property thefts and car break-ins.

Tyler Boebert, clad in a black and white jumpsuit, appeared for the hearing via a video hookup from the Garfield County Jail. He could be seen cracking smiles and laughing alongside two other detainees moments before the brief proceeding got underway.

During the hearing, the teen was issued a $1,250 personal recognizance bond by Magistrate Jill McConaughy. His next court date was scheduled for April 11.

Tyler Boebert was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by the Rifle Police Department and faces 22 charges, including several felony charges relating to a string of crimes in the Colorado district that his mother represents.

According to jail records, the teen faces four counts of criminal possession of a financial device, four counts of criminal possession of ID documents, and a count of conspiracy to commit a felony.

Tyler Boebert also faces four misdemeanor counts of ID theft, three misdemeanor counts of first-degree criminal trespass, three misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, as well as three counts of the petty offense of theft of less than $300.

The allegations behind the charges were not discussed at Wednesday’s hearing, and police would not immediately provide Business Insider a copy of the incident report.

Rep. Lauren Boebert.

A prosecutor called the allegations against Tyler Boebert, who turns 19 next month, “concerning” during Wednesday’s court hearing.

Lauren Boebert told Business Insider in a statement Wednesday that her son should be “held accountable for poor decisions” just like anyone else.

“I love my son Tyler, who has been through some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn’t ask for,” she said. “It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track.”

The congresswoman added, “I will never give up on him and I will continue to be there for him. As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.”

Tyler Boebert’s arrest is the latest upheaval in Lauren Boebert’s bid for Colorado’s 4th District seat.
