A teenager who allegedly stabbed a pair of grandparents and their dog in their own home in a “targeted” attack is known to the victim’s grandson, who lived with them, according to police.
Police were called to Mattison Way in Greenwood, in Perth’s north, about 8am on Monday, where they found the couple inside with stab wounds.
Colin Norton, 81, died at the scene while his wife Margaret, 71, also known as ‘Maggie’, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
It is understood the grandson may have been the intended target of the alleged attack and had been warned that someone would come to the house to harm him and his family, Daily Mail Australia understands.
The grandson was seen collapsing in the driveway after returning home and detectives broke the heartbreaking news of his grandfather’s death.
The couple’s dog was allegedly stabbed while trying to defend them. After fleeing his home, he was discovered wandering the streets. The dog is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.
Air resources and the police dog unit were called in as detectives sealed off the suburb and launched an urgent search for the suspected killer, 19, who was arrested 5km away an hour later.
He has since been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted unlawful killing.
