The Commissioner-General emphasized that UNRWA, established 75 years ago as a temporary measure, is now at a critical juncture, struggling to fulfill its mandate amidst escalating challenges.

The Commissioner-General underscored the urgent need for a political solution to the Palestine issue, calling on member states to take decisive action to facilitate peace between Palestinians and Israelis. Against the backdrop of a severe financial crisis and a devastating humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Commissioner-General appealed for immediate support to sustain UNRWA#39;s life-saving operations.

Moreover, the Commissioner-General highlighted the recent International Court of Justice ruling, urging Israel to prevent acts within the scope of the Genocide Convention and ensure the provision of basic services and humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza. Amidst mounting challenges, including attacks on UNRWA infrastructure and efforts to dismantle the Agency, the Commissioner-General called for concerted international efforts to safeguard the rights and well-being of Palestine refugees.

In conclusion, the Commissioner-General outlined three crucial requests to the General Assembly: facilitating a political process for peace, ensuring vital support for UNRWA#39;s operations, and seeking alternatives to UNRWA without compromising the rights of Palestine refugees. The impassioned plea underscores the pressing need for immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis and work towards a just and lasting solution for Palestine refugees.
