New Tottenham signing Richarlison has been given the number nine shirt at the North London club.
The Brazil international joined for a club-record £60million after leaving Everton and will now take over the shirt number that has remained vacant since Spurs legend Gareth Bale’s loan spell in 2020-21.
The 25-year-old can play in the front three, has signed a five-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and will join the rest of the squad this week in preparation for a pre-season tour of South Korea.
Richarlison has signed for Tottenham from Everton in a £60m deal
Richarlison, who has scored 53 goals in 152 appearances for former club Everton after signing for £40 million from Watford in 2018, is Spurs’ fourth signing this summer after the arrivals of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma.
Tottenham did not hand out the number last season, but have given their new frontman the iconic shirt.
Lately it’s been worn by the likes of Vincent Janssen when Spurs were looking for an understudy for Harry Kane, and they’ll be hoping they’ve finally found their man, with Richarlison’s versatility being a huge plus.
Roberto Soldado, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Dimitar Berbatov have also worn the shirt, as have club legends Jimmy Greaves and Les Ferdinand.
The attacker will miss Spurs’ first Premier League game after a FA . suspension
Tottenham fans will have to wait for the attacker to put on the shirt in a competitive game but after he was given a one-match suspension by the FA for throwing a flare into the stands during Everton’s game against Chelsea at Goodison Park in May.
He was also fined £25,000 after admitting an allegation of inappropriate behaviour.
As a result, he will sit out the Spurs’ first Premier League game of the season against Southampton on August 6, but could be lining up to play against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on August 14.
