But Everton managed to fight that when the two clubs negotiated a deal for Richarlison, who moved to north London for £60million last week.
Newcastle have also expressed interest in the winger, but expect a lot of resistance from the Merseyside club.
Gordon had a breakthrough for Everton last season, making a total of 40 appearances, including 34 in the Premier League, scoring four goals and scoring three more.

However, the Toffees’ dire financial situation will prove to be a huge stumbling block if the reported £500 million takeover – led by former Manchester United and Chelsea CEO Peter Kenyon – does not come to fruition.
