The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video that includes audio, visuals and information related to an officer-involved shooting (OIS) which occurred on December 3rd, 2022.
This incident occurred in the area of 29th Avenue and Thomas Road, when a man called 911 to say he was being threatened by another man with a knife. As the first two-man unit arrived they saw a male matching the description from the call. Officers gave several commands for the man to put his hands up and told him that he was under arrest. Officers provided medical aid to the man and requested Phoenix Fire Department to respond for follow up care. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer involved in this shooting has been with the department for 5 years and is assigned to the Maryvale Estrella Mountain Precinct. This incident is the subject of a criminal investigation, which will be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
