A Jet2 passenger was reportedly tasered by police and removed from the plane for “unruly” behavior.
He prompted the plane to land unscheduled on a Portuguese island 330 miles from its destination.
Video footage shows the 26-year-old man and his companion being escorted off the plane by staff.

A passenger on a flight to a Spanish holiday destination has been arrested and detained by Portuguese police for “disobedience” after being accused of “disorderly” behavior on a flight, The Scottish Daily Express reported

He was tasered for refusing to leave the plane, the outlet reported.

The passenger’s disruption caused the Jet2 plane from Edinburgh, Scotland, to make an unscheduled stop on the Portuguese Island Porto Santo in Madeira, diverting it 330 miles from its intended destination of Tenerife, the outlet reported. Reports suggested the flight was delayed by 27 hours.

The Madeira Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement that officers used “an electric weapon of low lethal potential” to remove the passengers from the plane after a request to disembark was refused, per the outlet.

It added that the “disorderly passenger” had exhibited behavior that “raised immediate concerns among the crew.”

The passenger and his companion were escorted off the plane, according to a video shared by Diário de Notícias, which also appeared on The Scottish Daily Express.

“The citizen ended up being detained by the police present there for the crime of disobedience, following the normal procedural steps and the flight continued to its destination,” the police force said.

A Jet2 spokesperson told the MailOnline that the plane was diverted to “offload a disruptive passenger,” which “subsequently delayed” a later flight from Tenerife to Edinburgh.

The passenger could not immediately be reached for comment.

Earlier this month, a “drunk” British Jet2 passenger had to be restrained by plane staff after threatening to open the aircraft door, the MailOnline reported, causing an emergency landing in Bulgaria. Another passenger was reportedly removed and fined £50,000, or $64,000, after urinating on his brother during a physical fight, per the outlet.
