Karl Stefanovic came under fire last month after making a bizarre joke about cocaine and longtime rival David “Kochie” Koch during the 2023 Logie Awards.
And Kochie fired back at the Today show host when he returned to Sunrise and The Morning Show on Thursday to announce his new role as chief economics officer at Compare the Market.
While Kochie sang the praises of Logies host Sam Pang, he said he was less than impressed with Karl’s improvised gag.
“He (Sam) did such a good job and the gags were really good. Sam is really smart because he never makes them vicious or personal or anything,’ he told Matt Doran and Kylie Gillies.
“It was just a wonderful night. A little different from Karl’s sense of humor.

Karl’s cocaine joke at the Logies left the audience – and Kochie himself – more perplexed than entertained.
He got the gag after Kochie confessed her fondness for the third season of the Stan Bump series during an onstage presentation.
Seizing the moment, Karl, 48, took a comedic leap, playing on the double meaning of ‘bump’, a term colloquially associated with cocaine.
And Kochie fired back at the Today show host when he returned to Sunrise on Thursday to announce his new role as Chief Economics Officer at Compare the Market.
‘I just wanted to check something…I’m pretty sure before I heard Kochie say he likes Bumps…season three. Did someone mishear that? Because I’m pretty sure I did.
“Anyway, those are tomorrow morning’s headlines…” Karl remarked, hoping for a laugh.
However, his risky attempt at humor seemed to miss the mark, with audience members not reacting as he had hoped.

A camera cut to a puzzled Kochie only added to the goofy moment.
Host Pang couldn’t resist a jibe at Karl’s joke later on the show, saying, “I don’t mean Karl’s joke about Kochie sinking, but OceanGate offers expeditions. to visit it.”
